Born and raised in Southern California, Jessica studied English at Stanford, and Drama at Barcelona’s Institute of Theatre, before moving to London in 2010 to pursue a career in film. Her first novel, The Serpent Papers, published by Quercus in 2015, has been translated into eight languages. 

In 2018, after the difficult birth of her twin sons, Jessica developed post-traumatic stress disorder and postnatal depression. Birth Notes: A Memoir of Recovery charts the journey of her healing. 

Jessica is committed to tackling stigma around Maternal Mental Health, and bringing Birth Trauma into the public eye.
